DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER "THE VISION THING?"

Does anyone remember the rap on George H.W. Bush.  "He had no vision,"  the left loved to say.   Exactly what this meant or why it was a negative was never clear to me.  But even George I, himself, self-deprecatingly referred  to "The Vision Thing."

But who was the first President in 50 years to look at the MIddle East and recognize that the status quo was notworking?  Who was the first President to realize that 30 years of shuttle diplomacy,  broken promises and shattered peace accords had been a total failure and offered no chance for real peace between Israel and the PLO?  Who was the first President to understand that Saddam Hussein was in continual violation of the Gulf War I peace agreement and would only continue to increase the scope of his misfeasance as time went on.

Only one President to my knowledge,  recognized that radical Islam was inexorably headed for a cataclysmic, culture clash with Western civilization.   And only once President in my lifetime dared envisioned  a bold stroke....the possible establishment of an ameliorating force.......a living breathing democracy in the heart of rabid Islamic fanaticism.

What say you now, my leftist friends?     This is a President with "Vision."   I have faith that this magnificent effort will yet succeed.    Yet -- in the final analysis --should it not,  the "beau geste" will be no less noble.  The attempt to strike at the heart of the problem will have been no less visionary no less honorable..........unless and until the democrats and the likes of Ted Kennedy,  Chuck Schumer, John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi repeat the disgraces or 1973-74 and betray those valiant Iraqis who stood with America and dared to dream of democracy in their homeland.
